"Westernport - Cecil D. Bateson Jr., 68, of 411 Johnson Street, died Wednesday 17 June 1992 at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, W.Va.

Born 12 January 1924 in Piedmont, W.Va., he was the son of the late Cecil D. and Irene (Gatrell) Bateson.

Mr. Bateson retired from the Celanese Corporation, Cumberland, in 1968, where he worked in the maintenance department. He graduated from Piedmont High School in 1944; was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Westernport and was past Grand Knight and current Deputy Grand Knight of Piedmont Council 685 Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Mary (Morgan) Bateson; three sons, Lane Bateson, Barton; John Bateson, Anchorage, Alaska; William Bateson, Westernport; one daughter, Diane Kenner, Swanton; one brother, Robert Bateson, Keyser; three sisters, Betty Jackson, Westernport, Dolores Ann Mauk, Keyser, Lillian Scarpinito, Barberton, Ohio; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Friends will be received at Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus.

Services will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m at St. Peter Church, Westernport by Father Richrd Woy. Interment will be in Philos Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus.

The family requests that memorials take the form of donations to St. Peter School or the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad."
