World War I German Fighter Pilot Flying Ace. Perhaps the most famous military aviator from World War I, he was credited with shooting down 80 Allied aircraft. He was shot down by Allied ground fire only two weeks before his 26th birthday. He was given a funeral with full military honors by the Allied forces.
