John Carbutt. PHILADELPHIA, July 28 (edition, died July 26) died today at his home in this city, seventy-three years old. Mr. Carbutt came to this city from Sheffield, England, in 1853. He was a chemist, and made scientific photography his life study. The Photographers' Association of America chose him as its first President. He made several inventions facilitating the taking of pictures in color, chief of which was the orthochromatic plate. In 1879 he perfected the Carbutt Dry Plate. As seen in the NY Times July 28, 1905
