Saint of the Roman Catholic Church. Baithéne mac Brénaind was a monk of Irish origin and his work and deeds are generally associated with the life of Saint Columban as his disciple. According to the annals of Tigernach and some genealogical documents he was born in 534 from the family of the Cenél Conaill of the Northern Uí Néill. In 563 he followed him as a missionary to Scotland where he founded some monasteries and became known as a clairvoyant thanks to several predictions documented by the Chronicles of Iona, Tiree and Hinba. Baithin or Baudan is revered as a saint in both Ireland and Scotland. According to the Annals of Ulster he died between 596 and 598 during his tenure as Abbot in Berwickshire.
