Bob H. Walker, 74, of Connersville, died Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Fayette Regional Health System.

On January 31, 1933, he was born in Carthage, Rush County, to Walter and Ruth Moss Walker. He attended Connersville area schools and during his senior year he enlisted in the US Navy. His military duty spanned over seven year aboard the USS Belle Grove and USS Henrico. He was very proud of his military service and was instrumental in organizing reunions of the USS Belle Grove crew. Bob was devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren, and was a Grandfather to many. He was an accomplished writer, expert woodworker and enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and growing flowers. He was a free spirit who supported Bobby Knight and Notre Dame.


Bob had been employed as the projectionist at the former Times Theater and had worked as a route salesman for Omar Bakery. He had also been employed at Design and Manufacturing and at Economy Drugs making deliveries.


Survivors include his wife, the former Georgia L. McCullum, whom he married September 2, 1955: eight children and their spouses: Mark R. and Sheri Walker, Donald Kent Walker, all of Connersville; Bryon Wade and Beth Walker of Charlotte, NC; Rodney Greg and Diane Walker of Henryville; Beth Ann and Vaughn Moretz of Sellersburg; Stephen Scott Walker of Connersville; Susan Renee Walker of New Paris, OH; Jamie Andrew Walker of Connersville; two step-brothers and their wives: Eddie and Becky Ball of St. Louis, MO; Richard and Jeanine Ball of Lebanon; 21 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father: Alden Ball; two brothers: Paul and Donald "Dick" Walker; three sisters: Barbara "Pinkie" Gengler, Helen Oakley and Norma Jean Noll; and his dog and best friend, "Spook."


Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastor Larry Callahan of the Grandview Word of Life Church officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Cambridge City. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday where memorial contributions be made to the Fayette Regional Health System Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center.
