Note: cemetery records indicate his father's name as John Clewett. However, his mother's maiden name was Clewett and she was already long term married to Mr. Matts before Howard's birth. I did not find any documents suggesting that his original surame as Clewett or that a John Clewett was his father

MATTS, HOWARD CLEWETT

MADISON – Howard C. Matts, 84, of 308 North Livingston Street, died Saturday (November 25, 1967) in a hospital after a long illness.

An employee of the State Motor Vehicle Department for 28 years, he retired in 1955. He was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. William Jones, Louisville, Kentucky; and a grandson.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Ryan Funeral Home, 215 King Street, where friends may call after 4 p.m. today.
