Presley Saunders Allender was born January 9, 1847 near Mr Pleasant Iowa where he grew to manhood. He passed from this life at his home in Ayr December 18, 1926, at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 18 days. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the army and served in the infantry until the close of the war. In October, 1869, he was married to Mary Jane Cantwell. To this union was born seven children, three sons and four daughters. Mrs Ollie Wilder and Roy Allender having preceded him. The living are Mrs. Lettie Wilder, Ayr; Mrs Belle Mitchell, Colorado; Mrs. Lottie Williams, Utah; Frank Allender of Hastings, and Edd Allender of Idaho. There are 23 living grandchildren who remain to mourn his departure. In the fall of 1872, Mr and Mrs Allender moved to Adams county and took a homestead near Ayr, which they still own. In 1891 he and his wife were converted and united with the M. E. church of which he was a member at the time of his death.
