Jeffrey Abbott, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bennie and Helen Whetstine Abbot, drowned in the Iowa River over the July 4 weekend. He was born Oct. 26, 1955, in Iowa City. He attended West High School and had recently received basic training in the Iowa National Guard.
He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Services were scheduled today at the George L. Gay Funeral Home. Burial was to be in Memory Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the Izaak Walton League.
Survivors include his parents; a sister, Anita, all of Route 3; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Abbott, of North Liberty.
