Albert received his Master of Arts degree in 1878 from Wittenberg College in Springfield, Ohio, and then in 1880 he got his Seminary degree from Wittenberg Theological Seminary in the same city. He was ordained as a Lutheran minister in 1880 by the Miami Synod of the Lutheran Church. He pastored Lutheran congregations in Ohio and Illinois 1880-1889. Then he became the pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Shenandoah, Iowa 1889-1894, after which he took a church in Kansas, and later in Indiana.
