On Aug. 14, 1945, The Sharon Herald published a list of World War II casualties from Mercer County and Brookfield. The following names were gleaned from that list. All of them died in France between D-Day and the end of 1944. Because there was no way to determine whether these veterans died during the first few days of the invastion of Normandy or months later of wounds they suffered during the invasion, The Herald chose to list them all.
Among the list was
• Army Tech. Sgt. Dennis J. Coan, 24, Sharon; Aug. 3.
