STEELE — Lorane Mary (Kapp) Binder, 74, Steele, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went to her heavenly home on March 5, 2012, with her family by her side. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, March 9, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Tappen, with the Rev. David Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Fisher Cemetery, Tappen.
Lorane was born Nov. 3, 1937, on a farm northwest of Crystal Springs, to Jacob and Mary (Gardner) Kapp. She attended both country school and Tappen Public School. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Tappen and the American Legion Auxiliary in Medina. While she was still at home, she babysat for neighbors.
Lorane married Rueben Binder Sr. on Oct. 22, 1955, in Tappen. They resided in Tappen most of their lives. To this union, three sons were born, Ronnie, Rueben Jr. and Rodney. She worked in cafes in Tappen, Jamestown and Glendive, Mont. Lorane began working for Northern Improvement Co. in 1974 until 1989.
When she was able, she loved to plant a huge garden and lots of beautiful flowers. Her greatest passion was feeding and watching birds and squirrels. Lorane was a wonderful cook, especially her German dishes. She was a very unselfish person, always giving and never expecting anything in return. She always put others first. One last way of showing her generosity was to give the gift of sight to someone in need.
Whenever she would call her family, no matter how many times a day, she would always end with "Love Ya." She truly loved her cell phone and texting, especially since she was not able to get out much. The grandchildren thought they had "one cool Grandma" when she would text them.
She always enjoyed watching her favorite shows, Little House on the Prairie, The Three Stooges, Andy Griffith, The Golden Girls and Bonanza. Whenever she could, she would listen to Daniel O'Donnell and the Irish Tenors. She rarely missed the Rev. McCoy program on the radio.
She had a very special relationship with Adeline Geist, who she would spend hours talking, texting, telling jokes and laughing with. She especially enjoyed talking German with her. The family will always hold a special place in their hearts for Adeline for all she did for Lorane.
