Myrna J. Nelson, age 90, of Cameron, IL; passed away at Monmouth Nursing Home on Tuesday March 6, 2012 at 7:35 pm. Myrna was born on July 30, 1921 in Cameron, Illinois and is the daughter of Bert M and Maude E. Anderson Stice. She was raised in the Gerlaw where she attended local rural schools. They moved to Monmouth and she graduated from Monmouth High School with the class of 1939. Myrna married Lyle B. Nelson on December 14, 1944 in Monmouth, Illinois. Myrna began work at Monmouth Pottery after high school and later worked for General Telephone in Monmouth as an operator. While her children were small, Myrna was a stay-at-home mom and then served as cooks helper at the Cameron elementary school. Her main employment was as a postal clerk for many years at the Post Office in Cameron, Illinois which she did until her retirement. Myrna and Lyle loved to dance and enjoyed the Big Band era music. She is a member of Cameron Christian Church and it's quilting circle and also has served as Treasurer of the church. Myrna is a fifty-five year member of their super club.
Surviving Myrna is her husband Lyle B Nelson of Cameron, Illinois, one daughter Marla (John) Johnson of Avon, Illinois, and son Michael (Sheila) Nelson of Viola, Illinois. There are four grandchildren, Jon-Mychel (Sandra) Nelson, Julia (David) White, Amelia (Justin) Rakestraw, and Cassandra (Eric) Weidmann. Nine great grandchildren are also surviving.

Services: A funeral service will be 11:00 am on Tuesday March 13, 2012 at the Cameron Christian Church. Interment will be in Silent Home Cemetery. Her family plans to receive friends at Cameron Christian Church from 9:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the funeral service. Friends may call at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth on Monday. A memorial fund is being established for Cameron Christian Church.
