HOWARD COVODE is a visitor from Ligonier to-day. -- Greensburg Press. Is he though? That's the first time we've heard of the son of the late Hon. John Covode since he and the writer, at Elder's Ridge Academy, 30 years ago, tied Stansbury Sutton, the Pittsburgh doctor, in his bed and piled four bushels of coal ashes on his study table. SUDDEN DEATH.

W.H. Covode Expires in His Store last Saturday.

The people of Ligonier were shocked last Saturday afternoon to learn that Mr. W.H. Covode had fallen over in his store about one o'clock and expired in a very few moments.

He had not been well and on Friday night about eleven o'clock sent for a doctor. Dr. F.E. McAdoo called to see him and found him quite sick from a bilious attack and his heart in a bad condition and administered some medicine. On Saturday morning he walked over to the doctor's office and then went to his grocery store on west Main street, where he remained all forenoon looking after the business of the store. He went home at noon but ate no dinner, returning to the store where he had left his son John, during noon hour, he fell over shortly after entering the store the fall being broken by his son, John, who attempted to prevent his falling. No one else being in the store assistance was called but he died in a few moments without being able to speak. The cause of his death was disease of the heart which is hereditary as his father and mother and most of his relatives died of the same disease. Mr. Covode was 60 years 8 months and 1 day old. He was the last surviving son of Hon. John Covode by his first wife, though there are surviving him John A. of Grand Rapids, J.H., of New York city, and Emma, Mrs. Blair, of Grand Rapids.

Mr. Covode was married three times, his first wife being a sister of Andrew Martin deceased and of Mrs. Hugh Murphy.

To his first wife there were born two daughters. Mrs. Lizzie Davis and Miss Sadie who died of typhoid fever in 1880.

His second wife was Miss Mattie Bell. The children to his second wife were Mrs. Anna Davis, Mrs. Jean Reinhart, Miss Eva and Mr. Harry Covode.

His third wife who survives him was Miss Mary McConaughy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. McConaughy. To this wife five children--John, May, Cora, George and Walter.

Mr. Covode moved to Ligonier from Fairfield township in 1870 and has lived here since. He was postmaster here during Harrison's administration. He was a life long Republican and a leading member of the M.E. church. Funeral took place Monday afternoon of this week, services at his late home on Main street conducted by Rev. W.F. Hunter. Interment in Valley cemetery. He was buried by the honors of war by the G.A.R. Post of Ligonier of which he was a member. A large concourse of relatives and sympathizing friends attended the last obsequies. Mr. Covode was a member of the Knights of Honor with an insurance on his life of $2,000 and of the Royal Arcanum insurance $3,000, and Hartford Life with $1,000 insurance. He had made a will which was dated March 1900.
