John B Cantrell, 88, Indian Harbour Beach, FL. He was the son of Ceceil W and Mary A Carney Cantrell and was raised in Cambridge, MA. John was a retired U.S. Army veteran who served with the 5th Armored Division, landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day and received 2 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He entered Harvard College and New England Conservatory of Music, BA and MA in Education, was reactivated to the U.S. Air Force, selected to serve Congressman W Dickinson and aide to President Nixon and was a Special Systems Analyst at U.S. Air Force Systems Command. John was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy E Kearney in 1994, daughter, Claudia C Fanning in 2010 and siblings, Helen, Virginia, Cecil W, Jr and Paul. Surviving is his wife, Barbara H (Judge) Cantrell of Indian Harbour Beach; daughter, Leslie C (Clay) Schoeffel and grandchildren, Clay, Jr, Benjamin and Paige. A memorial service will be held March 9, 2012 at the Beach Funeral Home in Indian Harbour Beach, FL. Published in FLORIDA TODAY on March 7, 2012
