Mary Alice Leigh, 74, of El Dorado, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard with Pastor Gene Kaufman of the First Assembly of God in Augusta officiating.

She was born Oct. 4, 1929, in Wichita, the daughter of Joseph Oscar and Nellie Myrtle (Burnham) Masters. She attended school and lived her early years in Topeka before returning to Wichita. On Aug. 27, 1948, she married Joe Taft Murphy in Atoka, Okla. She was a devoted mother to her nine children. She made a home for her family in Howard before moving to Arkansas and lived in El Dorado during her later years. In 1976 she became employed at the Coleman Company in Wichita and retired from there in 1990. In January of 1979 she married Keno G. Leigh in Park City. He preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 2004.

She was skilled in sewing and made many quilts for her family. She also enjoyed putting puzzles together.

Survivors include: sons, Bill Murphy of Howard, Bob Murphy of Hugoton, Joe Murphy of Elk Falls and Rick Murphy of Park City; daughters, Betty Adsmond of Leon, Margie Bradley of Rose Hill, Jodene Wray of Tripoli, Iowa, and Nellie Selleck of Washburn, Mo.; step-son, Keno T. Leigh of El Dorado; brothers, Walt Masters of Derby and Robert Masters of Texas; 33 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the Shriners Hospital for Children. Contributions may be left with Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
