Dewey Samuel Farmer, 68, a resident of Old Fort, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011, in a Chattanooga hospital.

He was a member of Berean Baptist Church. He was retired from Maytag Corp., after 37 years of service, a part of which time he was a supervisor.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was an avid fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Huse and Betty Farmer; and sister, Mae Messer.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Wanda Farmer, of Old Fort; daughter, Pam Farmer of Old Fort; son, Houston Farmer, of Old Fort; sisters: Connie Humphries of Decatur and Sue Elder of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011, in the Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery with the Revs. Roger Wagner and Richard McKeehan officiating.

Preston Farmer, Wayne Hovatter, Rich Ballard, Jeff Stevison, David Scoggins and James Messer will serve as pallbearers.

A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. Lebanon Baptist Church is located on Old Parksville Road.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Fike Funeral Home.

The family requests memorials may be made to Berean Baptist Church, 2355 Bucks Pocket Road S.E., Old Fort, TN 37362.
