Joseph is a son of Daniel and Lettie Rogers Alexander, both born in Tennessee. They moved to Iowa when newly married where Joseph was born. They later settled in Dade County, near Greenfield, until the Civil War when they departed to Texas.

Joseph married Adeline Morris September 20, 1850 in Dade County. He enlisted in Company C, Sixth Missouri Volunteer Calvary under Captain Montgomery,and served three years for the Union.

He built his farm up to 160 acres in Dade County, in 1900 Joseph moved to 2 acres at Dadeville, Missouri. His son Ulysses took over the family farm.

Children - Mordecai moved to Texas, daughter Corry mar. Mr. Wrightman of Springfield, MO, Ulysses of Dade County,
15 grandchildren
