Funeral services for Cora Lee Hicks Ates will be held Friday June 11, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden. Officiating will be Bro. Bill Crider and Bro. Bill Ichter of First Baptist Church Minden. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Funeral Home Mausoleum, 601 Hwy 80 East, Haughton. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday June 10, 2010 at Rose-Neath.

Cora was born November 14, 1938 in Jonesboro and passed away June 8, 2010 at Minden Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Minden. She had worked many years at Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant and was retired from Bell South Telephone Company. Having been an involved member of parent teacher organizations and band booster clubs at Lowe Junior High and Minden High School, students had unofficially deemed her as "the best chaperone ever". Mrs. Ates also enjoyed being a homemaker with a passion for cooking.

Her daughter Beckie Lynn Ates Durant, parents Colvin and Zular Hicks, brothers A.L. "Red" Hicks, Cecil Hicks, sisters Marlene Tippen, Ida Mae Waggoner and Louise Langheld preceded her in death.

Mrs. Ates is survived by her husband of nearly 53 years Billy H. Ates, daughter Beverly Ates Vega of New Iberia, granddaughter Heavenor Consuelo Vega of Baton Rouge, grandson Staff Sgt. Phillip R. Vega and wife Elise of New Iberia, great-granddaughters Emily and Lannie Vega, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Vega, Tony Taylor, Leon Johnson, Elvis Culverhouse, Jason Lindsey, and Dustin Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Spillers and Christopher Spillers. The family of Cora Ates offers special thanks to Dr. Carl Hines and staff, as well as to "our angels of mercy" the nurses and staff of Minden Medical Center, 3rd floor for the care and comfort provided to Mrs. Ates.
