Dies At 82 In Hospital

Philip J. Balwinski, 248 Baraga Ave. died at 5 yesterday afternoon in St. Mary's Hospital, where he had been a patient for one day. He was 82 years old.

Mr. Balwinski was born May 11, 1879, in Poland, and had been a resident of Marquette for 53 years. He had been employed by the Michigan Gas & Electric Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1944.

He was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral, the Knights of Columbus and the Modern Woodmen.

Mr. Balwinski is survived by three sons, Florian and Alex, Marquette, and Joseph, Duluth; a daughter, Sister Mary Seraphine, an instructor in St. Michael's School, and a brother, John, Auburn Mich.

Funeral services will be held at 10 Friday morning in St. Peter's Cathedral, with the offering of a Solemn Requiem High Mass. Burial will be made in Holy Cross Cemetery.

The body was taken to the Fassbender Funeral Home, where friends may call beginning at 7 this evening.

The Knights of Columbus will recite the Rosary in the funeral home at 7:30 tomorrow evening and at 8 tomorrow evening the parish Rosary will be recited.

He was born in Bydgoszcz, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Poland (West Prussia). He immigrated here along with his two brothers, Stanley and Casimir on Aug. 12, 1882 through New York, USA on the SS Donau.
