San Leandro man, Donald F. Blanchard, 34, of 1475 167th Ave., was killed yesterday when his car hit a guard rail and plunged 64 feet down an embankment on Nevada state Route 17 about 18 miles west of Highway 395 in Washoe County. A passenger in the car, John Mullin, 29, of 8467 Deervale Road, Dublin, was seriously injured, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Mr. Blanchard was born July 9, 1940 in Sioux City. He was a resident of the city until 5 1/2 years ago when he moved to California. He married Donna Lansiedell in August, 1970 in California. He was manager of a gas station for the Simas Brothers in California. He worked for Sioux City Dressed Pork in Sioux City before moving to California. Survivors include the widow; his mother, Mrs. Frank (Aileen) Blanchard of Sioux City; three sons, Donald R. in California, Brad and Ricky, both of Merrill, Iowa; a daughter, Jody of Merrill; a sister, Mrs. James (Cheryl) Rasmussen of Sioux City; a niece and nephew. The body will be brought to the Larkin Morningside Chapel.
