On March 4, 1936, she married LaVerne B. Gartin in Phillipsburg, Kan. He preceded her in death.
Survivors are: daughters, Karla Lemburg of Alda and Janice Chisholm of Newton, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and three nieces.
Velma received her education at Naponee High School and attended Kearney State College. Velma taught country school before her marriage. The couple lived in Franklin where they owned and operated Gartin Grocery for more than 40 years.
Velma was active in Franklin United Methodist Church before moving to Kearney in 1985.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: parents, one grandson, one brother and one sister.
Burial was in the Kearney Cemetery, Kearney, NE.
