Wave was born to Nora and Mills Campbell in Summersville, MO, October 1, 1915. She attended Summersville High School and Teacher College in Springfield Missouri. It was while at college that she met and married Nolan Troy Akins, October 1, 1936. Together they made their home in Houston, MO where they had two children Virginia Colleen and Nolan Don Akins. Wave enjoyed her years as Deputy Clerk of Deeds at Texas County Courthouse followed by twenty years of selling real estate. This was quite an accomplishment because she is listed as the first female in Texas County to hold a Real Estate license It was this accomplishment that entitled her to do what she so loved and that was introduce people to the beauty of Texas County, the land that held her heart. Throughout her life, Wave passed along her passion of the great outdoors, her love of the beauty of wildflowers and birds. Her gardens, an enrichment to those who beheld them, were a display of the wonderful beauty she saw throughout nature.
At the age of twelve Wave made her decision to become a member of the Methodist Church of Summersville where she was later baptized at Jack's Fork River. Nolan and Wave became members of the Methodist Church of Houston after they were married. It was there where she served for many years as Sunday School teacher and Methodist Youth Fellowship leader. Many will not only remember the important stories she told at church but also how she taught so many the importance of swimming while at Dog's Bluff.

Colleen's children are; Kelly Hutchinson, her husband Chris and their two children: Leslie and Blake Hutchinson all of Houston, TX.
