Rev John O Evans. RED HILL MISSIONARY CHURCH

On December 13, 1902, Rev Thomas Marcum, Rev John O Evans, Rev. William Duncan and Rev. Henry Meyers met at the Red Hill school for the purpose of organizing a Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Thomas Marcum was appointed moderator; Rev. John O. Evans, clerk. Articles of Faith were read and adopted. The Church Covenant was read and adopted.

The constitutional members were JOHN T. EVANS, MRS JOHN T EVANS and Edward Poore.

On the third Sunday in January 1903, the first business session was held and the record is as follows:

"We the Baptist Church of Christ at Red Hill in session. After devotional exercises, the church was called to order. Then appointed Brother J.O. Evans, mod. Pro. and J. E. S. Poore, clerk Pro. Then called for members and received Brother George Evans and Sister Fannie Evans by letter. Received Sister Viney Poore by experience. Then elected Rev. J. O. Evans, Mod. and J. E. S. Poore, clerk fro twelve months, then adjourned."

By 1910 the membership had increased to 135 and they decided the building was too small for the number of members. In 1911, a new and larger building was built and dedicated. Electricity was put in the church in 1941.

I believe the John T Evans above in this article was my great great grandfather John T Evans. I was told and shown in a book by a Mr Welch who lives next to the Red Hill Church, last summer 2000, that the John O Evans above was not any relation to John T Evans because John O Evans came from Ohio. It would be interesting to research this and see if they are indeed related somehow. A lot of migration to other states was going on by several family lines. I have one Evans line from William K Evans (John T Evans Brother) that went to Missouri and returned to Kentucky. So I personally believe that with a little research one might find John O Evans related somewhere to our John T Evans. JUST POSSIBLE!
