Margaret Ann "Maggie" Ballowe was born on 27 Jun 1851 in Unionville, Union County, KY. She was the oldest of nine children of John L. Ballowe (1825-1900) and Martha Matilda Austin (abt. 1830-??). Maggie was then raised to adulthood in Uniontown where her father worked as a carpenter. On 17 Jul 1870 in Uniontown, Maggie married John Charles McCreery. The young couple continued to live in Uniontown for some period of time, but moved to Paducah, KY, sometime before 1900. They had five children.

Maggie's 26 Mar 1923 obit reads as follows: Mrs. McCreery Succumbs After Illness of Pneumonia. Mrs. Margaret McCreery, 75 years old, widow of John McCreery, died yesterday afternoon in her home after an illness of pneumonia. Mrs. McCreery was a daughter of John and Martha Ballowe, pioneer settlers of Union County. Mrs. McCreery was born in Union County, June 27, 1850. She was educated at St. Vincent's Academy of Union County, one of the oldest educational institutions in the state. She was married in 1865 to John McCreery. She is survived by four children, Mrs. Ed Grouse, of St. Louis. MO, Mrs. T. W. Roberts, of Cleveland; Fred and Earl McCreery, of Paducah, all of whom were at her bedside when the end came. Three sisters and two brothers survive. They are Mrs. A. Long, of Jackson, Tenn., Mrs. J. L. Dunn, of Blytheville, Ark., Mrs. J. S. Cosby of St. Louis, William Ballowe of Jackson, Tenn., and George Ballowe of Jackson, Mich. Mrs. McCreery was a devout member of the St. Francis de Sales Catholic church. She was a woman with traits of character which won her many friends. The remains will be removed from the residence of her son, Fred McCreery, to the. Catholic church at 10 o'clock, tomorrow morning. High mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Father Conolly. Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. [Note that some dates in this obit are likely incorrect.]
