Rev. L. C. Randall is Dead at 72
Delmar - Funeral services are scheduled Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Stephen's United Methodist Church here for a former pastor, the Rev. Louis C. Randalll, 72, living in the Delmar area for about 15 years.
The Rev. Mr. Randall was dead on arrival Sunday night at Peninsula General Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home. He retired from active ministry about 10 years ago after about five years as pastor of the form Mt. Olive United Methodist Church here, which is now known as St. Stephen's Church.
Officiating at the service in St. Stephen's Church will be the Rev. Dale L. Ruth, Salisbury District superintendent and the Rev. Donald Hurst, pastor.
A second funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Centreville United Methodist Church with interment in Centreville's Chesterfield Cemetery.
The Rev. Mr. Randall, whose ministerial career spanned a number of years, was a retired Navy lieutenant commander, serving as a chaplain during World War II with much of his service in the Pacific Theater. He was also a World War I army veteran.
He was born at Westminster, Md., and was a son of the late Louis and Matilda L. Derr Randall. He was graduated from Western Maryland College in that city and also Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D. C.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lillian Pierson Randall; three sons, Air Force M. Sgt. Raymond T. Randall, stationed in Tawain, Robert T. Randall, Severna Park, and Mark Lane Randall, Delmar; three grandchildren; a brother, William C. Randall, Richmond, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Frances Schauer, Wilmington, and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Mr. Randall's first pastorate was at Calvary United Methodist Church in Wilmington and from there he went to St. James Church in Worton, Md. and then on to Unity Church in Hurlock. His military service then intervened. After his discharge he was at Grace Church in Milton, Del.; then to Grace Church in Centreville; then Cecil County parish; then to Epworth Church in Rehobeth Beach; Bethany Church in Pocomoke City and lastly to Mt. Olive or St. Stephen's Church in Delmar.
At the time of this death he was a member and chaplain of the Delmar Fire Department. Other memberships included Temple Masonic Lodge No. 11, Wilmington; the Military Chaplain Association of the United States; Delmar's Glen Rayne American Legion Post No. 15 and St. Stephen's Church. The Rev. Mr. Randall was a former member of the Delmar Kiwanis Club. He had previously served with the Maryland Sunday School Association and was with the former Maryland Conference of the Methodist Protestant Church. Additionally he had served on the Peninsula United Methodist Conference board of education and the Conference Commission of Chaplains.
For several years after his retirement, he was librarian at Delmar High School. He also had done substitute teaching at Delmar High, Wicomico Junior and Senior High Schools, J.M. Bennett Senior High and Mardela High School.
