Mrs. Almettie P. Akers, 96, of the Argyle Lake Nursing Center in Colchester and formerly of Plymouth, passed away at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 1994, at the Argyle Lake Nursing Center.

She was born on June 28, 1897, in Floyd County, Virginia, the daughter of Hoesa Rufus and Sarah (Thompson) Simmons.

On Feb. 22, 1914, she married Sidney Taylor Akers in Floyd County, Virginia. He preceded her in death of July 4, 1974.

A homemaker, Mrs. Akers attended schools in Floyd County, Virginia.

In Plymouth, she attended the Assembly of God Church.

Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Avery Leota Allen; two sons, Adron and George Akers; a sister; and five brothers.

She is survived by three sons: Eldon Akers of Plymouth, Jim Akers of Carthage, and Loren Akers of Plymouth; 22 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 53 great-grandchildren and 41 great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, at the Plymouth Assembly of God Church with the Revs. John McKinley and Henry Nash officiating. Burial was in the St. Mary's Cemetery near Plymouth.

Friends called at the funeral home on Monday afternoon at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Plymouth, with family meeting friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday. Friends also called on Tuesday morning until noon at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Memorials were made to the Argyle Lake Nursing Center or the Hancock County Shelter Care Home in Augusta.

Hamilton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
