Dennis Bloom, Strandburg, SD, drowned while swimming in the LaBolt Recreation Dam Lake on Mon, Aug 6, 1962. Dennis Arlo Bloom was born on Nov 30, 1943, in Watertown, SD. He was the son of Oscar Conrad and Adelene Eleanora Korsberg Bloom. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Agnes Backman Korsberg, and an infant brother. Mr. Bloom grew up in Strandburg where he attended and graduated from Strandburg High School just this past June. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Strandburg, a fine looking lad, and well thought of in his community and school. The day of his death was the first full day of his employment with the bridge crew of Grant County, SD. Although Dennis was a good swimmer, he gave no cry or warning or indication that he was in trouble. His death is doubly tragic for his Mother, inasmuch as his Father is seriously ill in the Ortonville, MN, hospital. Dennis is survived by his parents, maternal grandfather: Carl 'August' Korsberg, several aunts and uncles, and many, many friends of the local and greater South Dakota Baptist young peoples groups. Funeral services were held on Thurs, Aug 9, 1962, at the Bethel Baptist Church, Strandburg, SD, with the Rev. Charles Nethercott officiating. Interment was in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Dennis' fellow high school classmates: Orval Anderson, Dennis Estenson, Byron Lindell, Mike Linngren, Harlow Nelson and Ronald Swenson. Active pallbearers were: David Linngren, Jack Peterson, Lloyd Peterson, Paul Peterson, Mike Rowe and Ralph Sheppard. Arrangements were with the Emanuel's Funeral Home, Milbank, SD.
