Emmett J. Ledbetter Jr., 67, of rural Peoria died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 20, 1944, in Union Grove, Ala. He was the son of Emmett J. and Lucy Rader (Anderton) Ledbetter Sr. He married Rebecca Sue Johnson on July 6, 1985, in East Peoria, Ill.
He is survived by three children, Jeff (Becky) Ledbetter of Mapleton, Ill., Tracy (Brenda) Ledbetter of Glasford, Ill. and Anita (Tracy) Bohm of Manito, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
Emmett also is survived by one sister, Dolly (Gordon) Dykes of Columbus, Ohio; and one brother, Murphy (Ruby) Ledbetter of Bryant, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
He and his wife co-owned E and B Machine Shop for 22 years in Pekin, Ill. They retired in 2010.
He had been a machinist for more than 40 years. Emmett and Rebecca had a mutual love and admiration for each other, in work and in enjoying life. They traveled and spent time at their cabin in Alabama and enjoyed fishing. They both enjoyed their dogs together.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at the Davison-Fulton-Bartonville Chapel. A visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Private burial services will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery.

Emmett, 67, and Rebecca Ledbetter, 52, were pronounced dead at 7:45 p.m. in their home, according to Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll. Both appeared to have died from gunshot wounds, though autopsies will not be performed until Thursday.
Rebecca Ledbetter called police at 6:23 p.m. saying her husband had a gun. When police arrived to the home, both were found dead in the living area of the home.

Autopsies performed Thursday morning showed a Mapleton man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound while his wife also died of a gunshot, though not fired at such close range.
The findings are consistent with the theory that the deaths of Emmett, 67, and Rebecca Ledbetter, 52, were a murder-suicide, according to Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll.
The couple was found dead Tuesday night in their rural Peoria County home after Rebecca Ledbetter called police claiming her husband was shooting a gun in the home and threatening her. The family did not have a history of domestic violence.
Emmett Ledbetter died from a "contact-range" gunshot to the head, meaning the wound was consistent with self-inflicted gunshots. Rebecca Ledbetter also was shot in the head.
Toxicology testing will be performed, though the results of those tests will not be available for eight to 10 weeks, Ingersoll said.
