Margaret was born in the Netherlands in 1879 and immigrated to the United States at 2 years old with her parents Henry and Johanna (Den Braber) Van Dyke. Margaret first married Melford Martineau in 1900 then married Stanley Bala around 1915. Melford left his family to never be heard from again in 1902. Melford and Margaret had two children, Margaret and Henry (Heini) Martineau. Great Grandma Bala had such a love for her children grand children and great grand children. She also raised two of her sons children, June and Dickie. Margaret was baby sitting for her great grandchildren well into her 70's and could be found playing hide and seek in the back yard with them.
