She received her early education in the Fanshawe area before attending Wilburton Jr. College where she attained her Associate's Degree. She then attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

She soon traded her teaching occupation for one as a bookkeeper, working for various businesses in the Bartlesville area such as: the Bureau of Mines, Barlow Lumber Company, Adams Credit Union, Baughman Lumber Company and IGA Foods.
"Cordy", as she was often called, was a member of Bartlesville Southern Baptist Church where she enjoyed being a Wednesday night cook. She also enjoyed sewing and sporting events, even trying her hand at volleyball at the local YMCA. She was also a member of Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron.
