Betty Higdon Butler, 72, died Friday, July 28, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were Monday, July 31, 11 a.m. at Huntingdon First Baptist Church with Bro. Fred Ward officiating. Burial followed in Liberty All Cemetery.

Mrs. Butler was born September 27, 1933 to the late Edgar and Bess Hall Higdon in Benton County. She was the Administrative Assistant for her son, Dr. Roy Butler, a graduate of UT Knoxville, and a teacher for the Huntingdon Soecial School District and the Central High School. She was actively involved in the community having served on various committees, past President of the Home Economists and Homemakers Association; chairman of the Beautification Committee; Huntingdon Garden Club; Booklovers Club; Senior Woman's Club; an usher at the Dixie; a member of the Huntingdon Citizens Advisory Council and the Carroll County Federation and Republican Women. She was a member of the Huntingdon First Baptist Church where she served in various capacities: Sunday School teacher, the Building Committee, and the Drama Club. Mrs. Butler was also a Carroll County Extension Agent and very active in several political campaigns.

Survivors include one daughter, Miriam B. Nelson of Martinez, Georgia; one son, Dr. Roy Butler of Nashville; one brother, John Stanley Higdon of Bruceton; and two grandchildren.
