Bessie M. Douglas, 66, left us to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 16, 2012, at a local hospital.

She was born in Athens, Tenn., to Annie R. Sanders and the late Phillip Westmoreland Sr.

Bessie was employed by Southern Filter for many years.

Her father, Phillip Westmoreland Sr., and her brother, Dennis R. Westmoreland proceeded her in death.

She is survived by her mother, Annie R. Sanders; one son, Cedric L. (Ivonya) Douglas; four brothers, Phillip Jr. (Nancy), James, Lee and Calvin Westmoreland; four sisters, Freddie M. Williams, Shannon G. Westmoreland, Gloria A. Allen and Judy L. Braswell, all of Chattanooga; five grandchildren, Emmanuel Talley, Celeste, Candice, Cedric Jr. and Justine Escue; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Underwood officiating.

Interment: Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The body will lie in state after noon today at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, Chattanooga, TN.
