Ridgeland, SC - Verna Harvey Adams, 93, widow of James Leslie Harvey, Sr., and Ruel Adams died on September 25, 2004. She was a resident of the Eastern Star Home in Sumter, SC. Born in Bees Creek, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Ethel Wall. She was a member of the Mary Heyward Chapter of the Order Of The Eastern Star for Over 60 years. Mrs. Adams was married for 40 years to Leslie Harvey, who predeceased her in 1970. They were instrumental in establishing the Coosawhatchie Baptist Church and were charter members. They managed Hornes and Stuckeys stores in South Carolina and Florida for many years. She married Ruel Adams of Texas in 1975. They were members of Ridgeland Baptist Church, which she had initially joined in 1945. She was a member of the senior choir and the WMU. Following Mr. Adams death in 1985, she moved to Columbia to be near her son and daughter-in-law. She was a former resident of Christopher Towers and a member of Shandon Baptist Church. In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by a brother, Lenville Wall; a sister, Hazel Gray; a grandson-in-law, Stephen Sawicki; a son-in-law, Earl Reynolds and her daughter, Frances Reynolds. Mrs. Adams lived her life in service to her Lord Jesus Christ and to people, following His command to "love others as I have loved you". She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Charlotte Harvey of Columbia; granddaughter and grandson -in-law, Ann Margaret and Charles McCraw of Pelion; granddaughter, Linda Sawicki of Germantown, MD; step-granddaughters, Linda Weldon of Stanton, CA and Ruth Ann Frazier of Burbank, CA; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jay and Melody Harvey of Princeton, NJ; grandson, David Reynolds of Philadelphia, PA; great-granddaughters, Jessica Sawicki of Germantown, MD and Tabitha Harvey of Princeton, NJ; great-grandson, Chris Sawicki, US Army, Iraq and Jacob Harvey of Princeton, NJ and nieces, Joyce King of Ridgeland, Susan Young of Beaufort and Sally Floyd of Chesapeake, VA. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2004 in the Ridgeland Cemetery, Ridgeland, SC. Memorials may be sent to the Eastern Star Home, c/o Grand Secretary, P.O.
