Actor and Fencer. Patrick Crean was born in London, the son of Major Thomas Crean, V.C. and his Spanish wife, Victoria Heredia. His first career was as a competitive fencer. During the 1930's, when he was working as an actor, he began choreographing fights for film and theatre. He often played Errol Flynn's stunt double and acted in eight films, notably as the Medical Officer in Charles Vidor's "A Farewell to Arms" and as Denisov in King Vidor's "War and Peace." From 1962 until his retirement in 1983, he worked as the fight arranger at the Stratford Theatre in Ontario and, occasionally, took small acting roles. In 1970, he performed a one-man show, "The Sun Never Sets," as Rudyard Kipling. He was married and divorced early in life, and had no children.
