Hale, Oliver F. 'Slim'
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 14th at 11 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1900 Baker St., for Oliver F. 'Slim' Hale. Rev. Alvin Pinke and Rev. Michael Rogers will officiate. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Slim was born in Long Beach, CA. July 7, 1905 and passed away in Bakersfield May 11, 1987 at the age of 81. He had worked for 30 years in the drilling operations of the oilfields, spending 25 years with Loffland Bros. The last 15 years of his working years he was employed by Highland Park P.U. D. He married Dagny Hansen on August 16, 1937 and to this union 3 children were born, Steven, Kenneth and David. Steven passed away in 1950. Slim had a great zest for life, enjoying traveling, all sorts of sports including sailing on Ken's catamaran, bowling and fishing. He was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Petroleum Production Pioneers, Prime Timer's Bowling League and Lutheran Bowling League. He is suvived by his loving wife, Dagny; sons Kenneth and David; daughters-in-law, Karen and Angela; grandchildren, Cheralyn, David and Alexis; sister, Mary Hale of Long Beach; brother, Eugene Hale of Hawaii; and a host of in-laws and friends who will miss him dearly. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, Bakersfield Rescue Mission or the American Lung Association. Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Hopson Mortuary.
