Edna Dean (McCoy) O'Dell, the daughter of Chesten Hiram and Mary Elizabeth (Neal) McCoy, was born October 31, 1912, in Stockton, Missouri. Edna attended school in Stockton, Jerico Spring, Missouri, Kansas City, Missouri and Tarkio, Missouri, graduating from Tarkio in 1931.

On September 10, 1942, Edna was united in marriage to Duff O'Dell in Arlington, Virginia. They made their home in Tarkio their entire married life. Edna was employed as a seamstress at The Pantorium, as a Bookkeeper for St. Joseph Light & Power, for 13 years and for Tarkio College, for 16 years, all of Tarkio, before retiring in 1974. After retiring, Edna assisted Bob McCoy with bookkeeping for The Walnut Inn. Duff passed away February 14, 1979. Edna passed away February 14, 2012, at the Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 99.

Edna was a member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the PEO Chapter FF, Tarkio, honorary member of Phi Theta Kappa, Tarkio Community Garden Club, Mule Barn Guild, Tarkio Community Betterment, Allen-Schiffern American Legion Auxiliary, Charter member of the Walnut Hill Art League and Tarkio College Campus Women, all of Tarkio. Edna was a member of the Shenandoah Art II Association, Shenandoah, Iowa.

Edna was a painter and has worked quietly behind the scenes, she has given generously of her time to various projects and her contributions to her community were outstanding. She painted the murals in The Walnut Inn Towne Room and the Farmers State Bank Community Room. She designed the Tarkio Centennial Coin and logo, illustrated the Tarkio Trivia, including sketches of 42 citizens, designed the cover of the Atchison County Cemetery Book and designed the Centennial logos for the Tarkio Bicentennial Celebration and for Fairfax's Centennial Celebration.

Besides her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Duff O'Dell; brother and sister-in-law, Meryle and Virginia McCoy and brother-in-law, Dusty Rhoades. Survivors include one sister, Elsie Fae Rhoades, Tarkio; nieces and nephews, Bob McCoy, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Debbie (McCoy) Allen and husband, Todd, Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Danny McCoy and Tracy Jones, Tarkio, Jim Rhoades and wife, Marty, Janesville, Wisconsin, Mary Beth Bredensteiner and husband, Eddie, Westboro, Missouri, Jane McIntire and husband, Paul, Buffalo, New York; great nieces and nephews, Aaron McCoy, Lincoln, Nebraska, Recee McCoy, Kansas City, Missouri, Shelley Murphy and husband, Mike, Janesville, Susan Bird and husband, Dale, Kansas City, Jake Rhoades and wife, Heather, Janesville, Dallas Prather and husband, Jayson, Shane Bredensteiner and wife, Kymm, Blu Dow and husband, Tommy, all of Tarkio; great-great nieces and nephews, Ringo, Molly, Elizabeth, Marcus, Connor, Griffin, Lucy, Keely, River and Dillon.

Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
