Melvin J. McAllister, age 86, of Alloway Township, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2012 at the South Jersey Healthcare Hospice Care Unit in Bridgeton. He had been in declining health for the past year and a half.
A lifetime resident he was born on June 5, 1925, in Quinton and was the son of the late William McAllister and Bertha Wible McAllister and the husband of the late Georgean Russick McAllister.
In addition to farming on his family's farm, Mr. McAllister had also been employed with the former Tronics Company in Millville and Hunt-Wesson Foods Company in Bridgeton.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and walking.
Surviving are four sons, Wesley Cox of Millville, Bradley Cox of Rhode Island, Cameron Craig Cox of California and Wayne Cox of Florida; two brothers, Lester McAllister and his wife June of Friesburg and Frank McAllister of Cohansey; two sisters, Hazel Wilson of Daretown and Helen Pompper and her husband Francis of Quinton along with four grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Lewis, Charles and Russell McAllister and three sisters, Anna Howell, Margaret Swing and Bertha Hackett.
Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. Burial will take place at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m.
