William Edward Winters, "Papa", 67, of Oakville, MD, died April 13, 2008 at his residence.

Born April 28, 1940, he was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Spears Winters of Mechanicsville, MD. "Papa" received his early education through the St. Mary's County Schools. He was married to Alice Dorsey Winters of Mechanicsville, MD for forty two years. As a result of this union, there are three children. "Papa" worked various jobs during his lifetime, some of which included; the Maryland Tobacco Growers Association, B. Frank Joy, the Pepco plant at the Morgantown Power Plant and Leonard Copsey Seafood. He enjoyed playing cards, shucking oysters, playing lottery numbers, and hanging with the crew under Phil Butler's tree.

"Papa" is survived by his wife Alice Winters, sons, William (Cindy) Winters of Charlotte, NC, Francis "Pupu" Winters of Great Mills, MD, daughter, Deidre "Dee Dee" (Tony) Bryant of Lexington Park, MD, three grandchildren, Anthony "AJ" Bryant, Jr., Shyheim Winters, and Shanise Winters, sisters, Wilma (Lawrence) Estep, Gladys (Charles) Estep, Yvonne (James) Robinson, brothers, James "Boy" (Mary Annie) Winters, Carroll Winters and Joseph "Zip" Douglas, aunt, Mary Bonds, sisters-in-law, Doris Lane, Rosette Barnes (William), Rodena Dorsey, brothers-in-law Charles Dorsey (Gaye), Harry Dorsey, Thomas Dorsey, and Aloysius Jordan as well as a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson Demario Raquon Bryant, sisters, Agnes Jordan, Loretta Medley, Barbara Ann Winters, and brother, Joseph Winters, Jr.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 19, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Morganza, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Keith Woods as the celebrant. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.

Serving as pallbearers will be Marcus Estep, Rodney Thomas, Michael Berry, John Queen, Joseph Medley, Jr., and James Winters, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Alvin Jordan, Sam Butler, Neal Shade, Kenny Thomas and James Robinson, Sr.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1032, Lexington Park, MD 20653.
