YOUNG BUSINESS MAN TAKEN BY DEATH
Mr. Eugene A. Bohl, age 38, proprietor of Gene's Grill, born on a farm near Devine July 28, 1903, was stricken in his home late Friday evening. He was given first treatment by Dr. George S. Woods and then rushed by ambulance to the Medina Hospital in Hondo where, in spite of all physicians and nurses could do, he passed away at 9:20 Sunday evening. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Selma Schmidt Bohl, to whom he was married July 27, 1932; by one sister, Mrs. Mary Bohl FitzSimon of Castroville; by four brothers, Alfred, Edwin, Leo and Alex Bohl; and by friends without number. Mr. Bohl owned and operated the well-known and popular cafe on S. Teel and Highway 81 in Devine since it was started many years ago. He was known by his quiet, unassuming disposition, honesty and promptness in business. He was the fifth son of Eugene Leo Bohl and Louisa Jungmann Bohl, long-time residents of Medina county.

The funeral Mass Tuesday morning at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devine, in which he had been a member since birth, was celebrated by Pastor Rev. Lambert Schiel. Attendance was very large, many coming from other parts of the county for the sad rites. Burial was made in the family plot near where rests the remains of his parents. The pallbearers were George Bohl, Edwin Bohl, Jr., Leo Bohl,Jr., William Ehlinger, Irving Bendele, and Josie Graff.

The body was brought home Sunday night by Undertaker Redus and, after being prepared for burial, lay in a beautiful silver-gray steel casket in the funeral home until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. It was viewed by hundreds of people coming from a wide territory. The entire business section of the city of Devine closed for the funeral. More than 100 cars were counted in the long procession from the church to the cemetery, many coming from other towns.
