Young Michael's interest in religious life was reinforced by his uncle, Brother Leo Vincent, who was a Brother of Mary. Michael followed two older brothers to De La Salle Institute in Chicago where he met the Christian Brothers. In October of 1925, he entered the Juniorate Program at Glencoe, Missouri. He entered the Novitiate and received the habit and religious name of Brother Ignatius Vincent on August 30, 1928. He completed his scholastic training and received his degree from DePaul University in 1932 when he was assigned to teach at De La Salle High School in Joliet, Illinois. The following year he was reassigned to De La Salle High School in Chicago, Illinois, where he remained for four years. From 1937 to 1940 he was assigned to St. Mary's College in Winona and during his summer months he studied at DePaul and received his Master of Science Degree in 1940. In August of 1940 he was assigned to the Junior College in Memphis, Tennessee, and from 1944 to 1946 he taught at De La Salle High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Brother Ignatius Vincent returned to Christian Brothers College in Memphis, Tennessee, where he became Sub-Director in 1948. In 1950 he returned to St. Mary's College in Winona and remained there until 1954 when he was reassigned to St. George High School in Evanston, Illinois. In 1959 Brother Vincent was assigned to Hill High School in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he was to serve as Assistant Principal and Sub-Director of the Community until 1965. He came to Cretin High School in the same city for the 1965-66 academic year and to De La Salle High School in Minneapolis for the 1966-67 year. From 1867 to 1970 he worked at Grace High School in Fridley, Minnesota, and had a sabbatical year, 1970-1971, before returning to St. Mary's College for seven more years. He retired in 1978 but due to illness moved to Holy Family Residence and the care of the Little Sisters of the Poor where he remained until his death at age seventy-five, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for sixty-one years.
