The 1900 census of Chariton County, MO near Macon, MO, lists him at age 51 coming from Germany in 1870, having a housekeeper named Millie Houseman from Germany.

The large statue in St. Mary's Cemetery is dedicated to the memory of Fr. Bukes who served as a priest at Seven Dolors for many years. During a devastating epidemic he was known to visit the home of every sick family and answered every call for Last Rites. I believe his death resulted from him catching the virus. I received his funeral information from Tim Wiedmaier, who copied it from the records at Weston's Catholic Church. The black/white photo (left) was taken on the day of Fr. Bukes funeral.
