Vail Lady Passes Away
Mrs. Catherine Kearnes dies Tuesday, December 26
On Tuesday, December 26, occurred the death of one of Vail's oldest citizens, namely Mrs. Catherine Brogan Kearnes. She died at the home of her nephew P.T. Brogan.
Catherine Brogan Kearnes was born in County Galway, Ireland in 1833, coming to America in 1854. Two years later she was united in marriage with John Kearnes at Fulton, Illinois. After which they moved to a farm near DeWitt, Iowa. In 1879 together with her husband they came to Crawford county settling on their farm southeast of Vail. In 1891 they sold the farm and moved to Vail.
Mr. Kearnes passed away October 26, 1918 the result of a fall. She leaves no family, her last surviving brother having passed away July 21. Her nearest relatives being her nephews, J.W. Brogan, J.S. Brogan and P.T. Brogan, and her nieces, Mrs. Kate Lynch, and Mrs. W.H. Lynch of Omaha, and other nephews and nieces in Clinton county.
Funeral services were held at St. Ann's church Thursday morning of which she was a faithful conscientious member during her life time. Rev. J.W. Ryan celebrating high mass and solemen ******* later at St. Ann's cemetery, where she ws laid to rest by her husbands side. May her soul rest in peace.
