The year of birth of 1801 is an ESTIMATE based on the fact that she was listed as 49 years old in the 1850 census in Clinton Co, IN, as "Mary M. McCowin" or "Mary M. McCown"). Contrary evidence regarding her date of birth: She was listed as age 55 living with the Harrison Walter family as "Mary Lymore (sic)" in Michigantownship, Clinton Co, IN, in the 1860 census. Harrison Walter was her son-in-law. She has not been found in the 1870 census. She married 1st James McKown, abt 1821, in PA. He died 1853 and is buried in Sims Cemetery, Clinton Co, IN. From the 1860 census, we know she was married 2nd, in 1857, to Hugh G. Larimore, from whom she was subsequently divorced. In the Sims Cemetery, near Middlefork, Clinton Co, there is a tombstone that says:
"McKown M M
Myrtie
McKown
Died Oct. 20, 1876."
Does this mean that after 1860, she married 3rd a Mr. Myrtie? Or was Myrtie a nickname for her, and, because of the divorce from Hugh Larimore, those responsible for her tombstone omitted the Larimore name and instead used her first married name for the inscription? Can anyone cast any light on this? NOTE: Because the middle initial M appears in the 1850 census listing and also appears to be in the tombstone inscription, it is used here in the name on the memorial. The names Larimore and Myrtie are omitted in the name on the memorial partially to conform to what may have been her or her family's preference on the tombstone (in the case of Larimore) and because there is no independent confirmation of the name Myrtie's being a surname of a 3rd husband.

Clinton County Cemeteries, vol. III, published (typewritten) by Gem City Genealogical Shoppe in Frankfort, IN, (undated, but possibly from the 1970s), Compiled by Mrs. Joan Bohm Speer and Mrs. Jeanine Warren, p. 42, lists the following transcription from Sims Cemetery:

"McKOWN, M. M. Myrtie, d. Oct 29 [note discrepancy w/ Oct 20 from my own notes], 1876"

and lists that immediately after the name "McKown, James," as though the two stones may be side by side.
