Katie was born Dec. 2, 1916, in Collin County. She was a lifelong Southern Baptist and a member of Sagamore Hill Baptist Church, a nurse and homemaker. She moved from Arkansas with her family to Fort Worth, where she graduated from Northside High School in 1936. It was there that she met the love of her life, Lemuel Sharrock Greenwood. They were married on Sept. 11, 1941, and were happily married 54 years until March 14, 1996, when he was called home to the Lord. Katie and Greeny made their home in Fort Worth with the exception of World War II, when they lived in Fresno, Calif. It was there that the first two of their five children were born. When they returned to Fort Worth she attended nursing school. After graduation Katie worked at All Saints Episcopal Hospital, Harris Methodist Hospital and as a private nurse. She was an avid gardener, animal lover and reader with a wonderful sense of humor. She has gone home to join her husband, Lemuel; her parents; brothers; sisters; and great-grandson, Jordan Heitman.
Survivors: Daughters, Katherine Hardin of Mansfield, Idella and her husband, Stephen Schiavo, of Arlington, Elizabeth Greenwood of Mansfield and Cindy and her husband, Doug Lanphere, of Mansfield; her only son, James, and his wife, Sandra, of Arlington; 10 granddaughters; one grandson; and 17 great-grandchildren.
