Vera Mae Truby Brinker, 84, of Roanoke, passed away peacefully at her son's home on Saturday, February 4, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Oscar "Pete" Brinker, and her oldest son, Larry Don Brinker. She is survived by her son, Dean Brinker and his wife, Christalyn; her best friend and sister, Catherine Calaway, of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was a long time, very active, member of Preston Oaks Baptist Church and a wonderful friend to many in the church and a network of friends throughout her neighborhood. She will truly be missed by all she knew. The family would like to express our deepest appreciation for the kind and professional people who work with SouthernCare hospice and the caring and dignity they showed to Vera. In lieu of flowers, donations to SouthernCare hospice would be appreciated. A service celebrating Mrs. Brinker's life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 in the Simpson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Millsaps officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family Monday, February 6, 2012 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements handled by Simpson Funeral Home and Crematory, 366-0707.
