Sports Newscaster. He was the preeminent news anchorman on Philadelphia's WCAU-TV Channel 10 from September 13, 1948 until May 23, 1973. His newscasts for many years had more viewers than his competition combined. He was also the voice of "NFL Films" for two decades, known by many NFL fans as "The Voice of God". His rich, dramatic voice was a perfect complement to the long passes, thrilling runs and violent tackling of pro football. All football fans know his word delivery and can visualize the scene, "the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field", which he never actually said, as it was a Chris Berman (ESPN) tribute to his style. He was also the narrator for the John Wanamaker Christmas Show in Center City Philadelphia until the store closed as a Wanamaker's.
