Julia married Benjamin in Richmond on 22 November 1821. They had at least eleven children: Elizabeth Wickham, John Wickham, Chapman Johnson, Julia Wickham, Frances Ella, Benjamin Watkins, Anne Carter, Virginia, Frances P., Ferdinand and Alice.

Benjamin was a prominent Virginia politician and social figure, including serving as a United States Senator from 1834 to 1836.

She is buried in her husband's plot, near him and several of their children, and near to her parents in the John Wickham plot.
