Adams, John.

Son of William Adams and his wife Marion Yorke Adams. Nephew of Mrs. Andrew Jackson Junior and lived at The Hermitage (home of President Andrew Jackson) with his mother and two brothers until joining the Navy as a Midshipman in 1845.

Acting Ensign, 20 July, 1863. Acting Master, 9 March, 1864. Died 22 February, 1867 of Yellow Fever.

Pension records show service on board USS Jamestown.

The first USS Jamestown was a sloop in the United States Navy during the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War.

Jamestown was launched in 1844 by the Gosport Navy Yard, Virginia; and commissioned there on 12 December, with Commander Robert B. Cunningham in command.
