On Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, our mother, Bernice (Nonnie) Ates, left her earthly home for her heavenly home.She was born March 29, 1922 in Wright, FL and at the age of 6, moved to Milton where she resided until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyce B. Ates, her parents, Joseph Andrew and Nancy Barnes Rogers, sisters: Jessie Thompson, Melba Ates and Cora Hutto, brothers: Scarritt, Willie, Wyman and Phillip Rogers.
She is survived by her children, Virginia Crombie (Todd), Joseph Ates (Lynn), Linda McLean (Buddy), Joan Osborne (Jim) and Michael Ates (Connie); grandchildren, Donna Rollo, Paul Cook, Bryan, Brent, Jason, and Michael Ates, Andy and Lisa McLean, Julie DuPont, Kelley Waters, Chris Osborne, Tracy Bryan; 22 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 1 brother, Claude M. Rogers (Carolyn) and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
Bernice enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowers, wild birds, family reunions and loved the ladies of her Sunday School Class at Milton First Assembly.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 31 from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral service will be at 1 PM Wed. Feb. 1, 2012, at Lewis Funeral Home in Milton. Services will be officiated by the Rev. Fred Rogers and the Rev. Joey Rogers. Burial will be at Crane Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as Pall Bearers.
