Nathan Lee Baum was welcomed into the world on April 10, 1921 by Michael and Rubie Baum. A native of Colorado, Nathan received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado and went on to receive his Juris Doctorate degree from Denver University where he was an active member of Phi Beta Kappa. Nathan was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 1948 and was a prominent Denver Attorney for over 50 years. While at CU, he was proud that he headed the defense stamp (war bonds) campaign. He married the love of his life, Erma Sorensen Balderston on July 7, 1968. Erma and Nathan attended many local social events and shared their love of adventure by traveling the world together. Nathan served in the United States Army during WWII as a personnel consultant who administered psychological exams. In 1951 he became an officer in the Civil Air Patrol rising to the rank of Lt. Col. He was instrumental in establishing the Colorado Civil Air Patrol Foundation and celebrated over 50 years of service in this outstanding organization. During his time in the Civil Air Patrol, he received Certificates of Merit, an Exceptional Service Award and Senior Member of the year. Nathan served at both the local and regional level. He was group Commander and Legal Officer. Nathan is also past president of Congregation Emanuel from 1974-1977. He was the first chairman and co-founder of the Synagogue Council of Greater Denver and a past member of the mid-west Regional Board of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. He was an active supporter of the State of Israel Bonds and served on the board of Governor's of the Hebrew Union College. Nathan also served on the board of the Rose Foundation. He also was honored to be president of the Town Club and was a member of the POETS society. Nathan left this world on June 25, 2006 and is survived by his wife Erma, brother MJ Baum of Denver, step-daughter, Patricia Betts of Denver, grand-daughter Christine Betts of Lakewood and great-grandson, Robert Hudson of Thornton. Nathan was preceded in death by grand-daughter Elizabeth Hudson. Services celebrating this extraordinary life will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2006, 1:00pm, Temple Emanuel-Feiner Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colorado Civil Air Patrol Foundation.
